The People’s Fridge FEATURED ON Resolve Philly
Twice a month on Saturday mornings, sisters Sonia and Sonam Parikh drive out 45 minutes to pick up about 2,500 pounds of food from Trader Joe’s. As the founders of The People’s Fridge (TPF), they’ve built a partnership with the company, one of its many partners, contributing to a monthly intake of 8,000 pounds of food that is then distributed to West Philadelphia residents in need.
Along with a group of volunteers, the Parikh sisters sort and store food in the 1,000-square-foot warehouse they’ve been operating out of since January. Then they transport it to Cedar Park, where a line of families is usually waiting before the free food distribution begins.
